Founder & Proprietor of Pentronics
Pentronics was founded in 1987 as an independent provider of service for adaptive technologies for the blind and vision impaired. Nigel is an electronics engineer who, before starting Pentronics, worked in the Talking Book Studios of the then Royal Blind Society of NSW, before moving to Wormald Sensory Aids, (now known as Humanware), as their applications engineer, Australian Service Manager & later, Australian Manager. During this time, Nigel was responsible for the introduction of refreshable braille technology and computerised braille production into Australia. Nigel is also the author of the Toccata Braille Music Translation software and PictureBraille Tactile Graphics software.
As a member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers; Life Member of NextSense, (previously the Royal Institute for Deaf & Blind Children); guest lecturer at Renwick College's course of Master of Special Education; the 2003 recipient of the Betsy Caroline Brown Memorial Award for Services to Music Education from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music High Association of Old Students, (CHAOS); member of the Round Table on Information Access for People with Print Disabilities, and recipient of its 2016 Tammy Axelsen Lifetime Achievement Award, Nigel is dedicated to providing the best in adaptive technologies, with the best service and support possible.
